2007 Social Justice Summer Institute: Health Care for All
In America, one of the wealthiest nations, close to 47 million women, children and men remain without insurance or access to affordable health care. The health care issue is one of the most pressing issues that the country faces domestically. The 2007 Social Justice Summer Institute, Health Care for All will examine this concern, as well as other issues. This event will be held from Wednesday, May 30 to Friday, June 1, 2007 at the University of St. Thomas Jerabeck Center.

Topics to be discussed at the institute include life issues, Catholic hospitals in the 21st Century, health care for all, new covenant experience in Catholic health care, preventive health care, end of life ethics and politics, health care clinics and parish social ministry.

Guest speakers will be the Most Rev. Joseph Sullivan, Diocese of Brooklyn, NY; Most Rev. Daniel DiNardo, Archdiocese Galveston-Houston; Sr. Carol Keehan, Catholic Health Association; Deacon Clarke Cochran, Texas Tech University; and Dr. Elimore Rigamer, Catholic Charities, New Orleans.

A three-hour credit course (JUST 4306: Catholic Political and Social Thought) and a one-hour credit course (JUST 4193: Special Topics - Health Care for All) will be offered at the University of St. Thomas in conjunction with the Institute.
