BALTIMORE, Md.— Bishop Daniel E. Flores was chosen to lead the cultural diversity committee and named to the Catholic Relief Services board during the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops fall assembly in Baltimore on Nov. 14.
The bishops also chose Archbishop J. Peter Sartain of Seattle as their new secretary-elect, who will also serve as chairman of the conference’s Committee on Priorities and Plans.
The bishops picked new chairmen-elect for several other committees during the assembly. After serving for one year as chairman-elect, each bishop will serve a three-year term as chairman of their individual committees.
Bishop John C. Wester of Salt Lake City was chosen as chairman-elect of the Committee on Communications and Archbishop John C. Nienstedt of St. Paul and Minneapolis was picked as the new head of the bishops' committee on doctrine. Archbishop Dennis M. Our Mission The primary purpose of the Conference is to encourage and foster cooperation and communication among the dioceses and the ministries of the Catholic Church of Texas. A major function of the Conference is to be the public policy arm of the Conference's Board of Directors, the bishops of Texas, before the Texas legislature, the Texas delegation in Congress, and state agencies.
