A Diocese of Beaumont parish honored its patron saint last weekend and kicked off a month long celebration. The feast of St. Martin de Porres was celebrated at St. Martin de Porres, Cheek, on Nov. 5 as well as the beginning of National Black Catholic History Month. Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, celebrated Mass with those in attendance at the special occasion.
“St. Martin’s story calls to us to be prepared, as do the readings for today. That is the lesson that we can take away from them is to be prepared with faith in our hearts,” Bishop Guillory said.
After Mass all were invited to a dinner reception in the parish hall. The liturgical movers showed off their moves for the guests. This event was sponsored by the office of African American Ministry. Click here to view pictures from the reception on the East Texas Catholic web site.
